Absynthe Minded's eponymous fourth album is something special. I was just wondering how I'm supposed to write a short introduction to an album where each song is too good to not have something said about it. Absynthe Minded is good, very good. When I think about my favourite AM album, I immediately think of this one and then I feel guilty for leaving the others out (particularly Acquired Taste and As It Ever Was, I have a thing about albums beginning with A apparently) but then I listen to Absynthe Minded and think, 'Yeah, this is definitely the best'. Super hit, Hugo Claus adaptation Envoi is just the tip of the iceberg. A quieter album than There Is Nothing, Bert and co make a foray into ballads. Moodswing Baby is one of the finest songs they've ever written and Heaven Knows, Papillon and Paramount follow on its heels. But the the album isn't all ballads, Dead on my Feet, Mercury and Multiple Choice all make use of heavily distorted violin which give the songs an excellently dirty feel. Multiple Choice is another of those songs that needs to be witnessed live to truly experience the song. Absynthe Minded is probably my favourite album (I love all the songs I didn't mention too), what do you think?

This was the first Absynthe Minded album I heard all the way through and what an album to start with. Instantly drawn to hits "Envoi" and "My Heroics, part one" but as you listen to the album the rest of the gems come to the surface, I've already mentioned in a different thread that "Moodswing Baby" falls into my favourites catagory. "Papillon" is another I go back for a repeat listen or two or five or a hundred, especially the breakdown part with Jan's slow piano playing complimented by Renaud's growing with intensity violin solo. Overall an album with the right balance and I'd recommend this to any new Absynthe Minded fans as a place to start.
