2012 saw the release of AM's fifth album, As It Ever Was. Taking a new direction yet again, AM went for a more accessible, uptempo sound without losing their 'feel'. Their least jazzy album yet, Jan gets himself a Fender Rhodes, Renaud get a shiny new pedalboard and Sergej gets a keyboard and their resulting new sounds are spectacular. End of the Line features an incredible violin solo that sounds more like a steel drum, As It Ever Was resounds with a big, dirty synth bassline and the Rhodes on Only Skin Deep is amazing. You Will Be Mine is this albums 'Must See Live' it was already a firm favourite of mine but the faster, almost violent live version is even better. It's like a two and half minute explosion of sound. I also really love Get Around. It's such an evocative song, I love the imagery it conjures, plus I've always wondered if Renaud could play trumpet and violin at the same time, I guess he can! Discuss AM's latest here!
